The Why

Every profession has its stories—the moments that shape careers, inspire leaders, and quietly define an industry. Yet too often, those stories disappear when experienced professionals retire. That realization became the inspiration for Spa Director Diaries. When I began my career more than three decades ago, there were no spa management degrees or leadership playbooks. We learned by opening new spas, solving unexpected challenges, building extraordinary teams, and growing through every success—and every mistake. Those experiences became an education no classroom could fully teach.

Today, our industry is fortunate to have outstanding educational programs preparing the next generation of spa professionals. My hope is to complement that education by sharing the lessons that can't always be found in a textbook: the leadership decisions, unforgettable guest experiences, mentorship, and behind-the-scenes moments that reveal what truly makes a spa exceptional. Spa Director Diaries is my way of preserving those stories, celebrating the remarkable people who bring wellness to life every day, and passing their wisdom on to the leaders who will shape the future of our industry.
